What are forever Chemicals?

‘Forever chemicals’ are a common name for, Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS), which are a family of over 10,000 synthetic chemicals with very strong bonds that don’t break down naturally, leading to environmental persistence and bioaccumulation. They are great at resisting heat, water and oil, which is why manufacturers have used them in numerous products including clothing, textiles, cookware, packaging and healthcare.

Why does it matter?

Once introduced into the environment, PFAS exhibit extreme chemical stability and resist natural degradation processes. As a result, they persist in water, soil, and air for centuries, leading to their classification as ‘forever chemicals’.
Research suggests that long-term exposure to certain PFAS chemicals may be associated with certain risk to health and damage to the environment.

Working in collaboration with the Henry Royce Institute, the UK’s National Centre for Research and Innovation in Advanced Materials, based in Manchester and investing in our own in house Material Scientist.

We are pleased to introduce the next evolution, with our new Conti® Aquapure™ Washbowl, for patient bathing, with all the same features and benefits as the original washbowl and quality you can trust, now made without PFAS. Giving you peace of mind and supporting a more sustainable environment for future generations.

Our range of Medical Pulp Washbowls are the ideal solution for fully bathing bedbound patients. Designed to hold soap and warm water for up to 2 hours, these washbowls can be used alongside dry wipes and cleansing solutions to support good hygiene practice and help to reduce healthcare-associated infections.

Made from 100% cellulose-based fibres, our Single-use Medical Pulp range is fully maceratable and breaks down efficiently to pass safely through the normal waste stream.
