It was a fantastic day of competition in the sunshine for competitors in the Animalintex® BE100 Area Festival Championships at Frickley Park Horse Trials.
In two hotly contested sections riders enjoyed galloping across the stunning Frickley estate as they tackled the cross-country challenge set out by course designer, Adrian Ditcham, before concluding the class with the show jumping where riders went in reverse order for an exciting climax.
Danielle Johnston, riding Caroline Rowles-Nicholson’s, eight-year-old mare, Penny Black X took the Animalintex® AFC BE 100 Championship, following a fantastic clear round in both the cross-country and showjumping to finish on a score of 30 with just 0.4 time penalty.
Danielle from Lincoln said: “I was delighted with the result having only competed together in four events this year, she really did excel herself.”
The Animalintex® AFC BE 100 Open Championship was won by Lucy Robinson from Derbyshire riding Genia, with the pair finishing on their dressage score of 25.8.
The 11-year-old mare is owned by Cosima Curzon and has been based with Lucy for two years – Lucy has had sole ride of Genia this season having previously shared the ride with the owner.

Said Lucy: “Genia is such a consistent ride - we have been doing BE 100’s all season and she is yet to have a fault in the show jumping. Having the show jumping after the cross-country makes it a harder but more exciting competition, especially with everyone going in reverse order.
“Hearing the commentator say I was still clear when heading for the last fence also added to the suspense, as I didn’t want to fall foul to the commentators curse!”
