Vernacare becomes first Carbon Literate Healthcare Manufacturer
Vernacare are proud to announce they have been awarded Bronze status by the Carbon Literacy Project - becoming the first healthcare manufacturer to achieve this award.
The healthcare manufacturer has been awarded the Bronze level following a group of colleagues, including CEO Alex Hodges, undertaking the Carbon Literacy Training, hosted by Positive Planet.
This training educated colleagues on the climate crisis, and the actions needed by both the business and individuals to improve sustainability and the future of our planet.
As part of the Carbon Literacy training program, departments across the business pledged a commitment to a carbon saving initiative and have already begun to implement those into daily working practices. These include a reduction in print literature, new machinery updates, and a commitment to sustainability education across the whole business.
Alex Hodges, CEO at Vernacare, said, “We are incredibly proud to have become a bronze level Carbon Literate Organisation. Having attended the training day myself, I saw the effects we are all having on the environment and how we as a business need to continue our sustainability focus and influence the wider industry from our suppliers to our customers.”
Ben Winterbottom, ESG Project Manager, added, “It’s important for us to understand the effects of climate change, and how the decisions we make as a business affect that. Our achievement of bronze is to be celebrated, and we will now work even further and aim to achieve silver status.”
The Carbon Literacy Project is a not for profit formed to provide training and education for the public to become carbon literate, with Vernacare joining the likes as of the NHS Leeds Teaching Hospital, NHS Salford CCG, and the North West Ambulance Service as a Carbon Literate Organisation.
