Vernacare are a global healthcare manufacturer founded in the North West of England. They now have three northern sites including the Head Office in Chorley, and additional manufacturing sites in Bolton, and Worksop (alongside facilities in Blackwood and Newtown, Wales).
The award recognised a commitment to change within an organisation that has been clearly communicated both internally and externally. Vernacare’s winning submission highlighted their ambitions to achieving Net Zero status by 2045, driven by their dynamic three-year carbon reduction strategy.
Pioneering sustainable manufacturing is a central part of their mission and they have been striving to improve their production and product development practices across a wide range of manufacturing processes, reducing carbon emissions at every opportunity.
With core values including Environmental and Social Wellbeing, Vernacare have implemented an internal communication plan to involve all colleagues from shopfloor to the Head Office in their mission to be a sustainability leader.
This includes rolling out carbon literacy training for all colleagues and making environmental performance a key performance measure across all staff’s individual objectives.
Ben Winterbottom, ESG Project Manager, said, “To be named as the award winner in this competitive category is a huge achievement, and I’m thrilled to see our efforts being recognised by Medilink.”
“We’re dedicated to being as sustainable as we can be and we’ve already seen some great progress with the projects we’ve completed so far, with many more to come.”
The Medilink Healthcare Business Awards showcases the North’s strong capabilities, innovations, and commercial success within the region. As a winner at the regional level, Vernacare will automatically be entered into the Medilink UK National Awards.
