Vernacare are pleased to be announced as winners at the Recycling and Waste Management Awards 2022, run by BUILD magazine. With a diverse range of winners, the BUILD awards acknowledge businesses that have and continue to create pioneering solutions for the future challenges of waste collection, processing, disposal, and recycling.
Decided by a panel of industry experts, Vernacare have been named as 'Best Global Sustainable Infection Prevention Solutions 2022'.
Rachel Downham, Vice President of Marketing and Communications, said, "This is a great achievement that not only recognises our product developments such as 5th Generation Sharpsafe - the world's first full range of sustainable single-use sharps containers made from recycled plastics, but the improvements in our manufacturing process.
"As a British manufacturer, we pride ourselves in our continuous improvement. We have made significant investment in energy saving opportunities across the Group, including the installation of more efficient burners in our ovens at our Bolton manufacturing facility. We're also looking at how we can replace older production machines, improving our energy-saving practices.
"Through some product development and market engagement we made some changes to our male urinal, reducing the emission of around 350 tonnes of carbon and increasing efficiency by 6% per tonne of pulp we produce."
Ben Winterbottom, Environmentatl, Social, and Governance Project Manager at Vernacare added, "It is great to see our dedication to sustainability being recognised in the industry. We continually work hard to improve our sustainability credentials and introduce more recycled and environmentally friendly materials into our products and processes at Vernacare.
"We know there's still a long way to go by ourselves and the whole healthcare industry as we strive for net zero emissions by 2045, but we are positive we are making the right steps forward, whilst ensuring infection prevention is at the heart of what we do."
